Industrialist Anil Ambani’s wife Tina Ambani has failed to appear before the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday despite summons issued to her seeking her presence in a Rs 40,000 crore worth money laundering case.
The ED, said officials, is going to issue a fresh date in a summon asking Tina Ambani to appear before the investigators at its headquarters as the agency has set up a special investigative team on the directions of the Supreme Court to carry out a comprehensive probe in the alleged money laundering case against Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) companies.
It’s learnt that agency wants to question Tina to fix missing link in a money trail to acquire an apartment in Manhattan, New York, which is believed to carry a price tag of Rs 70 crore. In this case, the ED has already arrested Punit Garg, a senior Reliance executive and close associate of Anil Ambani.
The ED officials suspect that the apartment was purchased out of funneling of large bank loans Anil Ambani’s group companies had availed for business purposes.
Last week, the SC had pulled up the ED for the “unexplained delay” in probing bank loan fraud of over Rs 40,000 crores by ADAG companies
