The Delhi Traffic Police on Wednesday issued a detailed traffic advisory announcing diversions and restrictions in parts of south Delhi, particularly in the Saket area, in view of Christmas Day celebrations scheduled for December 24 and 25.
The advisory has been put in place to manage traffic congestion and ensure public safety amid an anticipated surge in footfall at major shopping and entertainment hubs in the area.
According to the advisory, special traffic arrangements will come into effect from 2 pm onwards on both days around Select City Mall, DLF Avenue Mall and MGF Metropolitan Court Mall in Saket.
These locations are expected to witness heavy pedestrian and vehicular movement due to Christmas festivities, prompting the police to regulate traffic flow in and around the area.
The traffic police said that Press Enclave Road, along with several internal roads of Saket and Pushp Vihar, will be affected during the restricted hours.
Commuters using these stretches have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and avoid the affected roads as far as possible to minimise inconvenience.
To manage congestion, traffic diversions will be enforced at key junctions in South Delhi.
These include the Sheikh Sarai red light on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, the Asian Market red light on Mehrauli-Badarpur (MB) Road, and the PTS Malviya Nagar red light on Sri Aurobindo Marg.
Traffic personnel will be deployed at these points to regulate vehicular movement and guide commuters.
As part of the traffic regulations, all median cuts from Sheikh Sarai to Hauz Rani will remain closed during the restricted hours.
This measure has been taken to streamline traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks along Press Enclave Road and surrounding stretches.
In addition, heavy vehicles, as well as DTC and cluster buses, will not be permitted on both carriageways of Press Enclave Road during the advisory period.
The advisory further stated that DTC and cluster buses will also be restricted from plying towards Pushp Vihar from MB Road via the Asian Market red light.
These restrictions are aimed at easing congestion on arterial roads that are likely to experience high traffic volume due to the celebrations.
To help commuters navigate the area, the Delhi Traffic Police has suggested alternate routes.
Those travelling from Chirag Delhi towards Qutub Minar have been advised to take the route via Khanpur T-Point, MB Road and Lado Sarai T-Point.
Similarly, commuters heading from the IIT Flyover towards Sangam Vihar or Sainik Farm have been advised to use the route via the TB Hospital red light, Lado Sarai red light, MB Road, Chirag Delhi and Khanpur red light.
The traffic police urged commuters to follow traffic rules and cooperate with on-ground traffic staff to ensure smooth movement.
People have also been advised to stay updated through official Delhi Traffic Police platforms for real-time information on traffic conditions and diversions during the festive period.
