A 44 year old grandfather who was the prime suspect in the horrific rape and murder of a 14 year old minor in North Tripura district wad sent to judicial custody by a local court on Monday for the next 12 days.
Speaking to reporters, North Tripura district Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai said, the maternal grandfather of the survivor of the rape that occured three days ago, was arrested in Assam within 24 hours of the incident from Assam. He was produced before a local court yesterday with a plea for demanding him to police custody for further interrogation.
However, the court sent him to judicial custody for 12 days.

The police official also said that the accused was charged with different sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
He added that the cops are prioritising the investigation on the case work is in progress to submit the chargesheet soon.
Meanwhile, the cops are still waiting for the post mortem report on the deceased.
The accused maternal grandfather of the deceased was arrested from Nilambazar of Assam’s Sribhumi district where he purportedly fled after the incident.
