U Mumba TT beats PBG Pune Jaguars 9-6 in Ultimate Table Tennis Season 7, bagging their second successive victory and topping the standings.

Reigning champions U Mumba TT extended their winning run in Ultimate Table Tennis Season 7 with a commanding 9-6 win against Maharashtra rivals PBG Pune Jaguars at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium on Thursday.

The result marked U Mumba’s second consecutive victory and propelled them to the top of the standings.

After a cautious start, U Mumba wrested control of the tie with a dominant Mixed Doubles performance from skipper Manush Shah and Anna Hursey. France’s Lilian Bardet then held his composure in a tense Golden Point finish against Omar Assar, sealing the tie and putting it beyond Pune’s reach.

The Maharashtra Derby lived up to the hype, with PBG Pune Jaguars striking the first blow as Snehit Suravajjula continued his unbeaten run this season. The Indian paddler fought back after dropping the opening game to beat Manush Shah in the opening Men’s Singles contest.

U Mumba responded immediately through Hursey, who produced another composed display to overcome Diya Chitale in three games and level the tie.

The momentum swung decisively in U Mumba’s favour during the Mixed Doubles clash, where Manush and Anna Hursey combined brilliantly to outclass Snehit Suravajjula and Prithika Pavade in straight games, giving the defending champions a vital cushion.

PBG Pune’s hopes ultimately rested on Omar Assar, who claimed the opening game against Lilian Bardet before the Frenchman mounted a spirited comeback to level the contest.

The deciding game delivered the tie’s defining moments, with Assar producing a brilliant around-the-net winner, before Bardet kept his composure in the Golden Point to complete the comeback and clinch U Mumba’s second straight win.

With the tie already settled, Prithika Pavade ensured PBG Pune Jaguars signed off on a positive note by beating Anusha Kutumbale 2-1. The duo produced the longest rally of the season in the second game as well, a gripping 31-shot exchange in which Pavade soaked up relentless attacks from deep behind the table before Anusha finally cracked under the pressure.

Anusha bounced back to take the third game on Golden Point with a scintillating backhand winner.

Earlier, in the Dream UTT Juniors, UTT’s grassroots competition running alongside Season 7, Dabang Delhi TTC edged UP Prometheans 5-4 to keep their playoff hopes alive; UP remained firmly in the top-four race despite the narrow defeat.

Ahmedabad APL Pipers also signed off with a 5-4 win over PBG Pune Jaguars, though both teams were eliminated from semifinal contention.

All UTT Season 7 matches will be live on Star Sports Khel (Hindi), Star Sports Tamil 2 HD and Star Sports Tamil 3 HD, and streamed live on JioHotstar in Hindi, Tamil and English.
