Union ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh met activist Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Wednesday (July 22, 2026), a day after the activist was shifted out of Safdarjung Hospital amid his hunger strike.

Both Ministers spent over an hour with Mr. Wangchuk at the hospital enquiring about his health. They also conveyed the government’s decision to initiate a debate in Parliament.
The Ministers assured Mr. Wangchuk that education reforms are being addressed and urged him to appeal to students to repose faith in the government’s process and avoid further escalation, sources said.

Mr. Wangchuk was discharged from the Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday (July 21, 2026) evening and was shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for further treatment in compliance with a Delhi High Court order.
Mr. Wangchuk was brought to the Medanta Hospital in an ambulance at 7.28 p.m. under tight security. He has been admitted to ICU 8, and his treatment has begun under the supervision of Dr. Sushila Kataria, an internal medicine specialist, said a Medanta Hospital official.
