The Indian Air Force’s renowned Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) performed a spectacular air show over the Somnath Temple as part of the ‘Somnath Amrut Mahotsav-2026’ celebrations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also witnessed the synchronized formations and daring aerial manoeuvres.
The Somnath Amrut Mahotsav is being celebrated to mark 75 years since the inauguration of the restored Somnath Temple by India’s first President, Rajendra Prasad. During the event, PM Modi participated in the Vishesh Maha Puja.
The Vishesh Maha Puja was followed by the Kumbhabhishek and Dhvajarohan ceremonies, marking the consecration rituals and the hoisting of the temple flag.

Wing Commander Janmeet Sharma, on Sunday, shared details of the performance, saying the 15-minute show highlighted the pilots’ ability to fly fighter aircraft in extremely close proximity to one another.
The aircraft took off from the Jamnagar Air Force Station and reached Somnath in around 18 minutes, covering an aerial distance of nearly 182 kilometres, officials said.
PTI reported that the team is led by Group Captain Ajay Dasharathi and comprises 13 pilots. Around 25 to 30 Indian Air Force personnel from the Jamnagar station managed operational responsibilities, including flypast control, aviation safety, bird hazard management, weather coordination and signal communication.
Established in 1996, the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team has conducted more than 800 air displays across India. The team has also represented the Indian Air Force internationally in countries including China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates, the release added.
