What to watch this weekend.

Murderous girlfriends, adorable aliens and retirement communities harboring dark and deadly secrets. This weekend’s entertainment offerings are many and varied, with a little bit of comedy, a dash of action and adventure, a sprinkle of mystery and murder, and plenty of horror and sci-fi to keep you diverted on these increasingly balmy spring evenings.

Along with new releases, this guide covers currently streaming TV shows, though I’ve had to cross off two titles from the list. Outlander’s series finale dropped last Friday after eight seasons, and The Boys released its final episode this past Wednesday after five seasons. While I didn’t hate either finale, I felt pretty disappointed with both finales and final seasons. You can read my Outlander series finale review here and my series finale review of The Boys here.

But even if those were a bit on the disappointing side, there’s still plenty of great TV out there. Right now, my favorite shows are FROM on MGM+, Widow’s Bay on Apple TV and the brand new Netflix series, The Boroughs. I also went to The Mandalorian and Grogu on Thursday and thought it was an absolute blast. You can read all about each of these in the guide below.

As always, I’ve scoured the internet for the best TV shows and movies streaming on Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+ for you to watch this weekend. If you have any recommendations, tips or other thoughts feel free to shoot me a note. Let me know what you’re watching these days, or if you’ve enjoyed any of my recommendations, on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. Be sure to also check out last weekend’s streaming guide below:

Let’s dive right in!

New TV Shows To Watch This Weekend

The Boroughs (Netflix)

There was a time when “from the creators of Stranger Things” would have held real cachet, real clout, but the final season of Stranger Things changed all that, and now I almost hesitate to mention that the Duffer Brothers are executive producers on Netflix’s new sci-fi horror comedy, The Boroughs. They’re not the writers or creators of the series, however.

I binged the first half of The Boroughs on Thursday evening and would have watched the rest if I’d known I’d have insomnia until 3am. So far, at least, it’s great. Basically take Stranger Things and Man On The Inside and you’ve got The Boroughs. The story follows widower retiree, Sam Cooper (Alfred Molina) as he grudgingly starts a new life in the retirement community in New Mexico called The Boroughs. He doesn’t want to be there, but he has a contract and soon mysterious occurrences draw him into a deadly supernatural mystery.

The series also stars Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, Geena Davis and many other talented actors. The genius here is that while the conceit is very similar to Stranger Things, the show doesn’t have to rely on any child actors at all! Definitely give this one a watch. I’m excited to finish it this evening.

P.S. Some scenes look like they could be down the street from Apple TV’s Pluribus and there are definitely similar vibes and plot elements between the two shows. Pluribus is a bit more unique and artsy and intellectual but so far I’ve found The Boroughs to be a lot more fun and less dry.

Mating Season (Netflix)

I burnt out on Big Mouth long before the animated show about teenage hormones gone wild ended. I burnt out so hard that I have absolutely no intention of watching Mating Season, another horny animated series from the same team, this time about wild animals. I know everyone has sex on the brain, but “too much of a good thing” applies here in spades.

Ladies First (Netflix)

I always enjoy Sacha Baron Cohen, and his new series, Ladies First – a remake of a French comedy series – sounds interesting. Cohen plays Damien Sachs, a womanizer who wakes up in a parallel universe dominated by women. All the US presidents have been women. The vast majority of CEOs are women. It’s the matriarchy, and a story that feels like it could have been plucked from the Barbie script. Rosamund Pike, Charles Dance and Fiona Shaw also star. This could be either really compelling social satire or way too on-the-nose, but of the six reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, four are quite negative.

The Other Bennet Sister (Britbox)

The Other Bennet Sister actually dropped on Britbox earlier this month but it slipped by me so I’m including it now. The story follows Mary, Elizabeth’s overlooked sister from Pride and Prejudice, as she sets out on her own Regency-era love story.

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed (Apple TV)

Tatiana Maslany stars in Apple TV’s new dark comedy series, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, which I was going to watch last night before I went down The Boroughs rabbit hole. Maslany plays Paula, a divorced fact-checker and soccer mom who finds herself in a web of murder, blackmail and youth soccer. It has excellent reviews so far. The first two episodes are out now with future episodes dropping on Wednesdays (aka Tuesday evenings on Apple TV).

Spider-Noir (MGM+ / Prime Video)

So Spider-Noir, the live-action Nic Cage superhero gumshoe series, doesn’t actually come out this weekend. Not exactly. The full series will begin airing on MGM+ on Sunday evening at 11:30pm PT, however, so I snuck it in and will include it in next week’s guide as well. Cage stars as Ben Reilly, an aging P.I. in this noir version of Spider-Man set in a 1930s NYC. Reilly is “The Spider” rather than Spider-Man, a much more fitting moniker for a film noir series. The show will stream in both color and black and white, which is pretty cool. I’ll definitely be watching in the latter format.

New Movies To Watch This Weekend

Jack Ryan: Ghost War (Prime Video)

Jim from The Office reprises his role as Jack Ryan in this follow-up streaming movie to the popular Prime Video Jack Ryan series. Ghost War isn’t faring too well with critics – just 50% on RT – and it’s doing even worse with audiences (46%) but it is a reminder that I still need to watch this series at some point.

To avoid making this list overly-long, here are some other new movie releases worth watching on various streaming services:

Prime Video

  • Blink Twice – The Zoe Kravitz thriller about a vacation to a billionaire’s private island that goes very, very wrong. This is a very timely film given all the Epstein Files discourse.
  • Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 – I rather liked Kevin Costner’s sprawling, messy, epic Western film but I’m also a bit miffed that the sequel is apparently never coming out and the planned third and fourth movies are likely DOA. Still, a worthwhile, if rather long, watch.
  • One Battle After Another – One of my favorite films of 2025, Paul Thomas Anderson’s political thriller is intense and hilarious and timely and absolutely must-watch cinema. If you watch one movie this weekend, it should be this one.

Hulu

  • Alien: Romulus (Hulu) - I didn’t like Alien: Romulus much at all, though I think partly that was because I was pretty excited about it and then it just ended up being really corny and not very scary. I need to stop getting my hopes up for the Alien franchise. Still, maybe you’ll feel differently.

Peacock

  • Wicked – The mega-hit musical returns to Peacock this week. While I didn’t care for the sequel, Wicked remains one of my favorite broadway musical adaptations.
  • Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair - Actually, a whole bunch of Quentin Tarantino movies just landed on Peacock this week, so if you’re in the mood for great crime dramas or historical revisionism, you have lots to choose from. If you’re in the mood for four hours of Kill Bill, The Whole Bloody Affair makes its streaming debut.

New Movies In Theaters This Weekend

The Mandalorian and Grogu

I’m working on my review of The Mandalorian and Grogu, but as I noted above I thought it was great fun. This is a movie that should please the whole family, old Star Wars fans and new alike. There are no goofy politics inserted, no attempts to overshadow our protagonists, just a bunch of fun action setpieces, lots of cute Baby Yoda humor and aliens galore. Is this just three episodes of The Mandalorian strung together into a movie? Yes, pretty much, but with a movie budget and the cinematography and special effects that provides. And a gorgeous musical score.

Obsession

Be careful what you wish for. Curry Barker’s new horror film, Obsession, makes this very clear. When Bear (Michael Johnston) wishes that his childhood friend, Nikki (Inde Navarrette) would fall in love with him, the wish comes true. That turns out to be a very, very bad thing. This is getting excellent reviews and looks crazy intense.

TV Shows Currently Streaming Weekly

From – Season 4 (MGM+)

FROM

Credit: MGM

We reach Episode 6 out of 10 in MGM+ horror hit, From, this Sunday. So far, this season has been incredibly strong. The story follows a group of people who end up in a mysterious town together, all from different places but all with the same predicament: They can’t leave. Oh, and monsters come out at night to prey on them. The mysteries have gotten more and more insane but this season is giving us plenty of clues as to the true nature of Fromville. Read my latest recap of Season 4 right here. New episodes drop Sundays.

Widow’s Bay (Apple TV)

Widow's Bay

Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay is about a small town on a remote island off the coast of New England where mysterious and terrifying supernatural occurrences take place. Matthew Rhys plays the town’s mayor, a man intent on turning the sleepy seaside hamlet into a bustling tourist destination. He’s forced to confront this drive as things keep getting worse and the secrets of the town grow deadlier and more frightening.

Widow’s Bay has some interesting parallels to From, including the fact that Episode 5 of each show’s current season involved a main character eating hallucinogenic mushrooms. Also, people born in Widow’s Bay can’t ever leave the island. What an absolute gem of a TV show. New episodes drop Tuesday evenings.

Your Friends & Neighbors – Season 2 (Apple TV)

Your Friends & Neighbors

Credit: Apple TV

Your Friends & Neighbors has drawn mixed reviews from fans this season, but I think it’s very nearly as good as Season 1 even if yes, it does focus a bit too much on characters we care less about than Coop (John Hamm) and his criminal exploits. The series follows Andrew Cooper, a New York financier, who loses his wife and his job and turns to a life of crime. Specifically, he starts burgling the homes of his wealthy friends and neighbors. This season also stars James Marsden who plays a very rich business magnate who also happens to be a dangerous criminal. New episodes drop Fridays.

Rivals – Season 2 (Hulu)

Rivals

Credit: Hulu

The first season of Rivals was such a delightful surprise. Set in Britain in the 80s’, the series is about the scheming and politics of TV broadcast in the Thatcher era. It’s also funny, sexy and extremely well-written with an excellent cast including David Tennant, Alex Hassell, Aidan Turner, Nafessa Williams, Bella Maclean, Danny Dyer and many more. A bit of romance, lots of great character conflicts, lovely English countryside and fantastic period costumes all make for a really excellent series and I can’t wait to start Season 2 this evening when the first three episodes drop on Hulu. Season 2 currently holds a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, five points up from Season 1.

I’ve only watched the first episode of Season 2 so far, but it pretty much just picks up the story from Season 1 and feels very much like a seamless transition between the two. Great characters who make morally questionable decisions, a fierce rivalry-turned-feud, and lovely period costumes that transport you to the wealthy English countryside of the 1980s all conspire to make this a really terrific watch. New episodes drop on Fridays.

Dutton Ranch (Paramount+)

Dutton Ranch

I got all the way to the final season of Yellowstone and then gave up. I just couldn’t take it anymore. The characters were almost all unlikable and chief among them was Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) who didn’t seem to have any kind of character arc at all, but just sort of existed in her state of misery-loves-company. I still don’t know what Rip (Cole Hauser) saw in her. In any case, Dutton Ranch is their story: Rip and Beth downgrade from the beautiful mountains of Montana to Texas (as someone born in Montana, I’m biased) and find themselves in a heated rivalry with hostile ranchers. The new series also stars Annette Benning and and Ed Harris. Episodes drop weekly on Fridays.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles (Apple TV)

Elle Fanning stars as Margo, a young college student who gets knocked up by one of her professors and decides to move back home and have the baby. Her parents are played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Nick Offerman. I watched the first episode and thought it was quite good. I’ve been a big fan of Fanning since The Great and she is, once again, great here. I haven’t watched enough of the show to have a full-fledged opinion, but so far it’s pretty funny and very well-written. New episodes drop on Wednesdays.

Amadeus (Starz)

Amadeus

I’m not sure if I’ll watch the new Starz take on Amadeus. Critics have been mostly very positive, with an 88% RT score, but audiences give it a very poor 37%. The problem is, the movie is such a classic. The story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his rival, Salieri, is at once quite funny and quite sad, and while I like Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany a great deal, I can’t imagine this living up to the film. (And the movie keeps popping up in other stuff I’m watching lately, including Marvel’s Wonder Man series). New episodes drop on Fridays.

The Terror: Devil In Silver (AMC)

I’ve only seen the first season of The Terror but I thought it was absolutely phenomenal. Of course, it was about two British exploration ships trapped in the arctic and the horrors, er, terrors the officers and crew experience in this dreadful, isolated part of the world. The show was named after one of these ships, The Terror (the second was The Erebus) and it’s all based on a true story, though wildly embellished both out of necessity and for entertainment purposes. The third season, Devil In Silver, is based on the book by Victor LaValle, about a working class man mistakenly committed to a psychiatric hospital where things get very, very dark. Dan Stevens stars. New episodes drop Thursdays.

Welcome To Wrexham – Season 5 (Hulu)

Welcome To Wrexham

Credit: Hulu

Welcome to Wrexham is a sports documentary about the purchase of Welsh professional association football club, Wrexham A.F.C., by actors Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) and Ryan Reynolds. The series follows the pair’s attempt to revive the flagging franchise. Kind of a real-life Ted Lasso, if you will, but set in Wales. The series has a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 87% from audiences.

The Testaments (Hulu)

The Testaments

Credit: Hulu

This new spinoff of The Handmaid’s Tale follows Agnews (Chase Infiniti of One Battle After Another) and Daisy (Lucy Halliday), young women at Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives. Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) is the major crossover from the original series, though it appears she’s having a major change of heart. Naturally, our heroes begin to question the brutal regime they are a part of, and rebellious thoughts begin to guide their actions. New episodes land Wednesdays.

The Audacity – Season 1 Finale (AMC / Samsung TV Network)

The Audacity

Credit: AMC

AMC’s new tech-bro drama, The Audacity, is an interesting series so far. I’ve seen the first two episodes and I can’t decide if I like it or not. The story follows Duncan Park (Billy Magnussen) a very anxiety-prone, mildly sociopathic tech CEO whose relationship with his therapist, Dr. JoAnne Feder (Sarah Goldberg) takes some ethically dubious turns. Like Succession, none of these people are likable at first. The big question is whether they’ll be likable enough to keep watching. Somehow Succession managed to get us to care about the rich, spoiled Roy family. The Audacity creator, Jonathan Glatzer, was a writer on that show as well. We shall see. New episodes drop Sundays.

Euphoria – Season 3 (HBO Max)

Euphoria

Credit: HBO

The third and final season of Euphoria has been controversial to say the least. Its Rotten Tomatoes score has fallen to just 40%. Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and the rest of the cast return to the coming-of-age story, but the show itself seems to have made too many changes to what made it Euphoria to begin with and both fans and critics have been left shaking their collective heads. New episodes drop Fridays.

Hacks – Season 5 (HBO Max)

Hacks

Credit: HBO

HBO’s popular comedy, Hacks, is nearing the end of its fifth and final season with a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, which is pretty much in keeping with every previous season (after cratering to 98% in Seasons 3 and 4). The story follows comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and writer Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) and their careers and relationship, and whether both can survive in a landscape of ego, ambition and comedy. New episodes drop on Thursdays.

For All Mankind – Season 5 (Apple TV)

For All Mankind

Credit: Apple TV

The space race, or at least the alt-history space race, continues in Season 5 of For All Mankind. Each season of the show takes place across a different decade, with the most recent in the 2010’s. The premise is simple: What if the Russians had been the first nation to land a man on the moon, galvanizing US politicians and spurring a real drive to invest in technology and science? What if the space race hadn’t ended and humanity had kept pushing into the stars in earnest? What might our world look like now? Season 5 has a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score. New episodes drop Fridays on Apple TV (which translates to Thursday evening).
