Wife Of International Kabaddi Player Allegedly Dies By Suicide In Rohtak, Probe Underway

The 23-year-old wife of international kabaddi player Sheelu Balhara reportedly died by suicide at their home on Friday afternoon in Haryana’s Rohtak district.

The deceased, identified as Muskan, belonged to the Meham area of Rohtak and had tied the knot with Balhara in December 2023. The couple’s son, Hardik, was born in November last year.

After receiving information about the incident, police officials and a forensic team reached the house and began an investigation. The circumstances that led to the alleged suicide remain unclear, NDTV reported.

Reports said Muskan had shared a reel featuring a Punjabi song on social media a day before her death.

The incident has surfaced shortly after a government school teacher in Dehradun allegedly died by suicide, with her family accusing her husband and in-laws of harassment.

Srishti Kandhari had married fellow government employee Saurabh Raturi in November last year. The couple lived in Doiwala, around 20 kilometres from Dehradun. In a complaint lodged with the police, Kandhari’s mother alleged that her daughter faced both mental and physical harassment over dowry demands.

She further claimed that Kandhari was repeatedly labelled “unlucky" and “inauspicious" by her husband and in-laws.

Before her death, Kandhari recorded a video message that has since been widely circulated online.

“Sorry mummy, main aise ja rahi hoon (Sorry, I am leaving like this)," she blurts out between sobs. “Everything has become so strange. I have been enduring this for six months… Now I can’t endure it anymore. Their mindset can never change. They keep blaming me for things that happened after our marriage. (Calling me) ‘manhoos, manhoos’ (cursed)," Kandhari said in the 90-second video.
