Delhi Government welcomes Supreme Court's approval for green firecrackers on Diwali in Delhi-NCR, saying it will balance tradition and environmental protection.

The judgment in the case was delivered by a bench comprising Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran (Representational)
Delhi Government on Wednesday hailed the Supreme Court’s nod to the sale of green firecrackers in Delhi and the National Capital Region on Diwali, saying that Delhiites will celebrate Diwali in the traditional way after years.
While speaking to CNN-News18, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa praised the decision and took a dig at the previous Aam Aadmi Party-led government for imposing a ban on firecrackers, saying the Arvind Kejriwal-led party misled everyone and got sale of crackers banned.
The Supreme Court of India has allowed the sale on green crackers in Delhi-NCR. AAP misled everyone and got sale of crackers banned, however, there was no change in pollution level despite the ban.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also thanked the top court for granting permission to use green firecrackers in the capital at the special request of the Delhi government.
“This decision respects the sentiments and enthusiasm of the public during sacred festivals like Diwali, while also reflecting a balanced approach towards environmental protection," she said in a post on X.
The Chief Minister further said that the government is fully committed to the resolve of a clean and green Delhi.
“This Diwali, let us all come together to celebrate with green firecrackers, harmonizing festivity and environmental protection, and work towards realizing the resolve of a ‘green and prosperous Delhi’," she added.

What Supreme Court Said?
The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the temporary sale of green firecrackers in Delhi and the National Capital Region, as it pronounced its order on a batch of pleas seeking permission to manufacture and sell green firecrackers.
The judgment in the case was delivered by a bench comprising Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran, which said the bursting of green firecrackers in Delhi would only be allowed from October 18 to 21.
“The sale of green firecrackers will be permitted from October 18 to 25. The police authority will constitute a patrolling team to keep an eye on only permitted products with QR codes being sold," the bench said.
“Violation notice to be attached for persons who violate the rules," it added.
“The use of firecrackers shall be confined from 6 pm to 10 pm. There shall be no supply of firecrackers from e-commerce websites," the court said.
