Amit Shah Reviews Criminal Justice System In West Bengal, Stresses Higher Conviction Rate

Shah emphasised that improving the conviction rate should be a priority and called for coordinated efforts by all stakeholders involved in the criminal justice process.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the three new criminal laws are making India’s justice system faster, more transparent and citizen-centric, as he reviewed their implementation in West Bengal.

In a post on X, Shah said he held a review meeting on the implementation of the three new criminal laws in the state with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and other senior officials.

“The three new criminal laws are making the country’s justice system faster, more transparent, and citizen-centric. Today, in Siliguri, West Bengal, I held a review meeting on the implementation of these laws in West Bengal with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and other senior officials," Shah said.

He said the laws, backed by digital platforms such as e-Evidence, e-Summons and i-Prison, along with mandatory forensic investigation in crimes punishable by seven years or more, the provision of Zero FIR and the use of technology, would usher in a new chapter of good governance and swift justice in the state.

“Through digital platforms like e-Evidence, e-Summons, and i-Prison, mandatory forensic investigation in crimes punishable by seven years or more, Zero FIR, and the optimal use of technology, these three new criminal laws will initiate a new chapter in establishing good governance and swift justice in West Bengal," Shah said.

Shah further reviewed the border security grid at the Jhumagachh Border Outpost in Siliguri, where he inspected surveillance systems and inaugurated Border Security Force infrastructure projects worth Rs 77 crore.

He said the Centre’s “smart border" initiative, aimed at creating a quadrangular security grid using advanced technology, would first be implemented at the grassroots level in West Bengal.

The Home Minister will chair a meeting on the law and order situation in West Bengal, which will be followed by the inauguration of the World Museum at the National Library in Kolkata on Sunday.

He will lay the foundation stone of the world’s largest curd-making facility of Amul Dairy at Sankrail Food Park in the Howrah district from a programme at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata later in the day tomorrow.
