West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday said that Bangladeshi infiltrators detained in the state will now be handed directly to the Border Security Force (BSF) for deportation, instead of being produced before courts, under the new system that has recently come into effect.

Speaking after an administrative review meeting, Adhikari said the instruction had already been communicated to the city police commissioner and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

“Since yesterday, the new rule has come into effect under which infiltrators will not be sent to courts but handed over to BSF outposts at the Bangladesh border," he said.

Adhikari on Wednesday announced the implementation of a mechanism under which infiltrators detained by the state police would be handed over directly to the BSF for deportation, unveiling what he described as part of a broader “detect, delete and deport" framework.

The chief minister said that under the revised process, individuals identified as illegal migrants from Bangladesh will be taken to BSF outposts at the border, including Petrapole in Bongaon and border areas in North 24 Parganas, after being detained by state agencies. He also said they would not be produced before courts under this arrangement.

Adhikari further directed that weekly reports on such detentions be submitted to the Chief Minister’s Office through the Director General of Police. He also instructed officials to ensure proper handling of detainees before transfer to border authorities.

The announcement comes as part of a wider administrative review of civic and law and order issues in Howrah. During the same meeting, Adhikari also reviewed development works, infrastructure concerns, and pending municipal arrangements in the region.

Officials were instructed to focus on civic services such as drinking water supply, drainage improvement, and sanitation over the next few months. The administration also discussed steps to address illegal constructions and alleged corruption cases under a state-appointed anti-corruption commission.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the district magistrate and representatives from railway and municipal departments. The state government said coordination between agencies would be strengthened to improve implementation of civic and administrative measures in the district.
