Trent Alexander-Arnold lauds Real Madrid and Vinicius Junior after their 2-1 victory over Benfica, eyeing a 16th Champions League title.

Star England and Real Madrid right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has said that there is no reason why the 15-time winners cannot win a 16th Champions League title, thanks to the level of the team. Madrid beat Benfica 2-1 in the second leg of their CL encounter to move into the next round with a 3-1 aggregate victory.

Vinicius Junior sealed Real Madrid’s progress to the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday with the clincher against Benfica.

Vinicius scored the winning goal in a 2-1 win on the night to bag a 3-1 aggregate success for Real in the play-off tie in Madrid.

“The level of the team, the quality individually and collectively, there is no reason why we cannot go and win the Champions League. We are ready for whatever challenges come next," Alexander-Arnold said while speaking to the media.

Speaking about Vinícius, Alexander-Arnold lauded the Brazilian as a game-winner, expressing hope that he maintains his current form. He added that Vinícius steps up whenever the club needs him.

“Vini Jr. knows how good he is and he likes to express it on the pitch. We try to give him the ball as much as possible and let him do what he does best. If he keeps playing this way, we have a much better chance of being successful," Alexander-Arnold said.

“Vini does not need to prove anything to anyone. He has shown how good he is time after time. His mentality is to go out there and help the team win and he has done it again," Alexander-Arnold added.

A week after the racism controversy in Lisbon’s first leg, Vinícius delivered a flawless response on the field, while the Argentine midfielder he accused of racial abuse, Gianluca Prestianni, served a UEFA-imposed provisional ban and sat out the game.
