A 16-year-old Class 8 student allegedly died by suicide in Rajasthan’s Dholpur district after a minor altercation with a female classmate at school.

The student, identified as Rahul, was a resident of Takrauli village in Madhya Pradesh. He had been staying with relatives in Dholpur to pursue his studies.

According to police, Rahul had a minor disagreement with a female student at school on Thursday. During the exchange, the classmate allegedly used a derogatory term referring to his skin colour, NDTV reported.

Police said Rahul returned to his room later that evening and allegedly hanged himself. When he did not step out of the room the next day, those at the house became concerned. They looked through a window and found him dead.

After receiving information from residents, police reached the spot, conducted a preliminary inspection and took the body into custody. Following the arrival of Rahul’s relatives, a post-mortem examination was carried out, after which the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.

Sub-Inspector Harveer Singh said that the police are investigating the full sequence of events, NDTV added.
