A college student allegedly shot his fellow mate dead inside the classroom in Punjab before shooting himself. Police are investigating the motive behind the attack.

A shocking incident unfolded inside a law college classroom in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Monday, where a first-year student allegedly shot a classmate dead before turning the firearm on himself.

According to officials, the accused, identified as Prince Raj, entered the classroom at the college in Usma village just before the lecture was scheduled to begin

Without any apparent warning, he allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired at Sandeep Kaur, hitting her in the head.

He shot himself soon after with the same weapon.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagbir Singh told news agency PTI that Kaur died on the spot, while Raj was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Both students were enrolled in the first year of the law programme at the institution, he added.

Police said they have not yet been able to determine the motive behind the attack and that multiple angles were being examined as part of the investigation.

The pistol used in the shooting had been seized, and forensic teams were sent to the scene to collect evidence.

Officers also questioned students and staff members who were present on campus at the time and began reviewing CCTV footage from the premises.

The footage of the incident shows a classroom with some students when a young man is seen standing near a desk, raising a handgun and firing at a woman seated nearby.

Panic appears to break out immediately afterwards, with several students rushing toward the exit.
