Congress will face youth, farmers’ ire over unkept promises: KTR

BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao warned that the Congress government in Telangana would face a massive youth movement, similar to the ongoing protests against the BJP-led Central government in New Delhi, over its alleged failure to fulfil election promises.

Addressing a ‘Rythu Sadassu’ at Luxettipet in Mancherial district on Tuesday, Mr. Rao said the recently held ‘Yuva Sangrama Sadassu’ reflected growing anger among youth over the unfulfilled promises made in the Congress’s Youth Declaration - including two-lakh jobs and unemployment allowance.

He alleged that farmers were also agitated over the government’s failure to implement assurances made in its “Rythu Declaration” ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections. He accused the government of failing to provide ₹2,500 a month to women under the Mahalakshmi scheme.

Referring to the two separate incidents in which four farmers were killed when sheds collapsed at procurement centres due to gusty winds in Luxettipet mandal in May, he alleged that the government had failed to provide financial assistance to the bereaved families.

On the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), Mr. Rao alleged that the government was deliberately underutilising the project for political reasons despite Godavari water flowing into the sea.

He claimed that 3 tmc ft of water could be lifted from the Kannepalli pump house a day and diverted to the Yellampalli reservoir through coordinated operation of the Annaram, Sundilla and Medigadda barrages.

Questioning the delay in carrying out repairs to the Medigadda barrage, he claimed that the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) had not barred lifting water from the Kannepally pump house. “The government is turning a deaf ear to repeated assertions by retired engineers in this regard,” Mr. Rao alleged.
