Sathiyan Gnanasekaran leads Dabang Delhi TTC to a 9-6 win against Ahmedabad APL Pipers in Ultimate Table Tennis Season 7.

Indian veteran Sathiyan Gnanasekaran led from the front with a skipper’s performance, delivering crucial victories in the men’s singles and mixed doubles as former champions Dabang Delhi TTC beat Ahmedabad APL Pipers 9-6 in Ultimate Table Tennis Season 7 on Monday.

At the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, the venue for UTT Season 7, Dabang Delhi TTC and Ahmedabad APL Pipers traded early blows before Sathiyan and Maria Xiao restored Delhi’s advantage with a crucial mixed doubles win.

Delhi skipper Sathiyan then took complete control of the tie with a commanding straight-games win against Payas Jain, laying the foundation for his team’s third victory of the season.

Dabang Delhi TTC drew first blood as Youssef Abdelaziz edged past Adrien Rassenfosse in a thrilling three-game contest, sealing a win on Golden Point. Ahmedabad responded through their in-form foreign star Sofia Polcanova, who levelled the tie with another Golden Point victory over Maria Xiao, continuing her brilliant run in Season 7.

The momentum then swung in Delhi’s favour as Sathiyan and Maria Xiao bounced back to winning ways in the mixed doubles, beating Payas Jain and Sofia Polcanova to hand the former champions the initiative.

With the tie delicately balanced, skipper Sathiyan stepped up with a statement performance. After losing their recent meetings against Payas Jain, the Indian veteran turned the tables with a commanding straight-games win to put Dabang Delhi TTC in control.

Ahmedabad skipper Manika Batra signed off with another brilliant singles win against Sutirtha Mukherjee, but Dabang Delhi TTC had already done enough to bag a crucial 9-6 victory and boost their playoff hopes.
