Google to set up AI hub in Visakhapatnam : Google CEO Sundar Pichai on Tuesday announced that he has briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the plan to set up the first mega artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, calling the project a "landmark development". While PM Modi has also shared his comment by saying, "Delighted by the launch of the Google AI in Visakhapatnam." The project, worth approximately 15 billion dollars over five years (2026-2030), is Google's largest investment in India to date, according to a company statement.

Sundar Pichai Announces Google's Largest AI Hub Outside US

In a post on X, Pichai said, "This hub combines gigawatt-scale compute capacity, a new international subsea gateway, and large-scale energy infrastructure."

"Through it we will bring our industry-leading technology to enterprises and users in India, accelerating AI innovation and driving growth across the country," he added.

PM Modi says 'Delighted by launch'

Prime Minister Modi said that he is very happy with the launch of Google AI Hub in the dynamic city of Visakhapatnam.

"This multi-faceted investment that includes gigawatt-scale data center infrastructure, aligns with our vision to build a Viksit Bharat. It will be a powerful force in democratizing technology. It will also ensure AI for All, delivering cutting-edge tools to our citizens, boosting our digital economy and securing India's place as a global technology leader," PM said in response to Pichai's post.

Google to Set Up AI Hub in Visakhapatnam

While speaking at a company event, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said that the new AI hub will combine AI infrastructure, new data centre capacity, large energy scale sources and expanded optical fibre network.

Citing CEO Thomas Kurian, PTI reported that we plan to invest 15 billion dollar over the next five years in setting up an AI hub in Visakhapatnam.

"By delivering industry-leading AI infrastructure at scale, we are enabling businesses to innovate faster and creating meaningful opportunities for inclusive growth. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to the Indian and US governments to harness AI responsibly and drive transformative impact for society," he added.
