A 23-year-old cab driver was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting an IndiGo employee while ferrying her to Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport in Hyderabad for her night shift.

The accused was identified as Errapogu Prashanth, a resident of Shamshabad mandal in Telangana’s Rangareddy district.

According to the police, the incident took place when the woman, a cabin crew member employed with IndiGo, was travelling to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in a cab assigned for her commute.

During the journey, the driver allegedly diverted the vehicle from its usual route and stopped near an isolated under-construction area close to the airport.

Police said the accused told the woman he needed to use the washroom before he allegedly attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman resisted the alleged assault and managed to escape from the spot. Police said the accused fled immediately after she escaped.

The victim later approached the Airport Outpost Police in Shamshabad and lodged a complaint narrating the incident.

Based on her complaint, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Police registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the accused.

Following the complaint, police tracked down and arrested Errapogu Prashanth.

He was produced before a magistrate and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

Police said the case was registered on charges of allegedly sexually assaulting the airline cabin crew member while transporting her to the airport. Further investigation into the incident was underway.

In the aftermath of the incident, airport authorities reviewed the safety protocols and transportation arrangements for employees travelling to and from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, especially those working late-night and early-morning shifts.
