A 19-year-old diploma student died by suicide after posting emotional messages on WhatsApp and Facebook in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district.
The deceased has been identified as Dhanush (19), a native of Goppenahalli village near Kondajji in Turuvekere taluk. He was a second-year diploma student at a college in Turuvekere town.
On Tuesday morning, Dhanush left home telling his family that he was going to college. However, he did not respond to phone calls from his parents throughout the day, raising concern.
During a search, his bag, slippers and mobile phone were found near a water tank located behind the diploma college.
Before taking the extreme step, Dhanush had posted messages on his mobile phone, including “You be happy, I am leaving, bye," and “I am leaving this world," on WhatsApp and Facebook. The photo he shared along with the message reportedly included a girl.
After receiving information, Turuvekere police were alerted. Fire and emergency personnel reached the spot and launched a search operation.
His body was later recovered from the water tank and shifted to the mortuary of the Turuvekere Government Hospital.
A case has been registered at Turuvekere Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
