Kin arrested for alleged murder of dairy farmer in Kozhikode

The Kozhikode City police on Tuesday (July 21) arrested a youth in connection with the alleged murder of a dairy farmer, B. Biju, 38, at his residence near the Palayam bus stand. The investigation, supervised by District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) A.P. Shoukathali, revealed that personal grudge, and not narcotics rivalry, was the motive behind the crime.

According to police sources, the accused, identified as T.M. Deepak, 21, had deep resentment after Biju recently attempted to get him medical treatment for mental illness. He was also a close relative of the victim and was waiting for a chance to endanger the man, the police said.

The victim‘s body was recovered from a pool of blood inside his single-room house early on Sunday (July 19) after his mother alerted the police upon finding the room locked from the outside. The post-mortem examination conducted at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital confirmed extreme brutality.

Initial investigation was reportedly focussed on a possible attack by those addicted to drugs, as Biju, according to his relatives, was involved in passing information on drug peddlers to the local police as part of the State-wide anti-narcotics drive, Operation Toofan.

However, forensic evidence and technical analysis later led the police to rule out the involvement of drug pushers in the incident.
