Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of TVK chief and Chief Minister-designate Vijay, his mother Shoba Chandrasekhar expressed happiness and said the occasion was even more special as it coincided with Mother’s Day. Follow LIVE Updates Here

Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Sunday, Shoba Chandrasekhar said, “I am so happy. It is Mother’s Day today, I am very happy."

Vijay is set to take oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

Leaders from alliance parties, political figures and members of the film industry are expected to attend the ceremony.

SA Chandrasekhar, director and father of Vijay also expressed happiness ahead of the swearing-in ceremony and said, “I am very happy. We are going to attend the function. I am going to enjoy that my son is going to take the oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu."

Vijay, whose Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats, secured the support of the VCK and IUML, taking the alliance tally to 120 in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.

After receiving letters of support from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML, Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan and was formally invited to form the government.

The development marks a historic political shift in Tamil Nadu, as it will be the first time in nearly seven decades that a government led by neither the DMK nor the AIADMK assumes power in the state.
