Singer-composer Adnan Sami on Monday hit back at the Opposition leaders over their criticism of his interaction with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, asking them to “move on" and drawing a sharp distinction between individuals and the actions of their forefathers.

Responding to posts by the Maharashtra Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, Sami said it would be unfair to hold present generations responsible for the deeds of their ancestors, referring to repeated references to his father’s role in the Pakistan Air Force.

“It was once India and it is now Pakistan… Therefore once a legitimate conversion has taken place legally & as per procedure, then you accept it and move on… Any doubt? .. Similarly, kindly move on…," Sami wrote on X, addressing the Congress.

Mr Dear respected fellow patriots from the Maharashtra Congress ( @INCMaharashtra),It would not be fair on you if anyone blames you for the tragic partition which your foreFATHERS were responsible for as you cannot be held responsible for any of their deeds. Regardless, today…— Adnan Sami (@AdnanSamiLive) February 9, 2026

Taking a swipe at Raut, he added that blaming him would be akin to holding Raut responsible for his father’s actions, before remarking on Raut’s harmonium-playing skills.

Sami said he was not a politician but a musician who spreads love through his work. “I’m not a politician, I’m a musician who spreads love through his songs and therefore will love everyone who gives me love… Try love next time… That’s all! Jai Hind & Jai Maharashtra!" he wrote.

The remarks came after the Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) targeted the RSS over Bhagwat sharing a meal with Sami during a two-day RSS centenary event in Mumbai.

The Congress, in a post on X, alleged that Sami’s father had served as a Pakistan Air Force pilot during the 1965 India-Pakistan war and termed the interaction “anti-national", while Raut questioned the message being sent by the RSS.

Sami had earlier shared photographs with Bhagwat and praised him, saying the RSS chief had addressed several “myths and misconceptions" during their interaction.
