Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged students to use technology wisely and not let it control their lives, saying artificial intelligence (AI) should assist their learning rather than replacing it. The remarks came during the second episode of the ninth edition of the annual Pariksha Pe Charcha programme, where the prime minister interacted with students from different parts of the country.
Modi said that technology should be a tool to enhance potential, not something that distracts or dominates daily life. He expressed concern that many young people have become overly reliant on mobile phones, sometimes even unable to eat without them or without watching a screen. The prime minister spoke directly to students from Coimbatore, Raipur, Guwahati and Gujarat during the interaction.
In the session, Modi noted that every generation has faced concerns when new technologies emerge. From computers to smartphones, people have often worried about how inventions could shape habits and behaviour. “But the fear is unnecessary,” he said, emphasising that it was important to learn how to use technology without letting it take over. Now lets dive into major highlights of the episode , what PM shared with students.
Pariksha Pe Charcha 2026: PM Modi' top 10 quotes during interaction with student | highlights
1.“Technology should not control human life; it must remain a tool, not a master”
2.“Artificial intelligence should be used for guidance and value addition, not as a substitute for learning”
3.“Many children today cannot eat without a mobile phone or a screen, which is a serious concern”
4.“Every generation has feared new technology, but fear is unnecessary if we use it wisely”
5.“Discipline is essential in life; inspiration without discipline only creates frustration”
6.“Studies and passion are not opposites. With the right approach, both can grow together”
7.“ Developed India in 2047 depends on citizens developing responsible habits today”
8.“Leadership is not about speeches or positions, but about taking initiative and setting an example”
9.“Students should compete with themselves instead of constantly comparing with others”
10.“No matter how advanced technology becomes, human effort and learning will always matter”
According to a report by PTI, Modi specifically highlighted that mobile phones had become masters of some children’s routines, and stressed that students must make a conscious decision not to let technology enslave them. He said AI should be used for “guidance and value addition,” but not as a substitute for hard work and personal effort.
He also encouraged students not to fear emerging technologies like AI, but to use them to improve skills and expand their capabilities. Modi pointed out that as jobs evolve over time — much like transport changed from bullock carts to aeroplanes — people should adapt and use tools to their advantage without losing focus on learning fundamentals.
Beyond technology, Modi offered students practical advice on preparing for exams. He suggested they practise solving previous years’ question papers and ensure they get enough rest before tests. “You will never feel tense after preparing well for exams,” he said, adding that a good night’s sleep can help students stay cheerful and focused.
The prime minister also spoke briefly to parents present at the event, advising them against comparing their children with others. He said comparisons can add unnecessary pressure and harm students’ confidence.
Modi further outlined leadership qualities he hopes to see in the future generation, saying fearlessness and the willingness to take initiative are vital. He reminded students that leadership is not just about speaking or winning elections, but about explaining ideas clearly and inspiring others.
The Pariksha Pe Charcha programme, held annually ahead of board exams, is designed to connect the prime minister with students, parents and teachers across India to discuss study strategies, stress management and life skills in a relaxed setting.
