The Shivamogga district administration on Tuesday (July 21) held a meeting on forming Bharat Jodo Yuvaka Sangha in the district to promote sports, scientific temper, culture, social harmony and constitutional values.

Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti told officers that the State government had planned to form 10,000 Bharat Jodo Yuvaka Sanghas in the State. People aged 16 to 35 can become members of such sanghas, each comprising anywhere between 100 and 250 members.

Mr. Kavalikatti said that there would be one sangha in each gram panchayat, and in urban localities, there would be one unit for a population of 4,000 to 10,000. The government would provide 10 lakh annually to each sangha in three instalments. The programme would be implemented through the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, he said.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the funds could be utilised for sports and cultural equipment, computers, internet facilities, libraries and basic infrastructure. Each organisation will have a 15-member executive committee, including a president, vice-president, treasurer and 12 executive members, with mandatory representation for women and reserved categories. The committee will have a two-year term.

The organisations will conduct sports and fitness activities, yoga camps, traditional games, cleanliness drives, environmental programmes, blood donation and mental health awareness camps, cultural events and activities promoting social harmony. They will also organise programmes on digital literacy, entrepreneurship, life skills, water conservation, waste management, cyber safety, traffic rules, agricultural innovation and prevention of drug abuse, he said.

Superintendent of Police B. Nikhil, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek V., Assistant Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Rekhya Naik and senior officials from various departments attended the meeting.
