Spiderman, Doctor Strange And More: Avengers Missing From The First ‘Doomsday’ Trailer

The first ever official trailer for Avengers Doomsday has arrived, complete with an official release date of December 18, 2026. It is bursting at the seams with Avengers galore, but given the sheer smorgasbord of MCU properties that have made their way into screens large and small, there are still several prominent names that have not appeared in the trailer.

Here’s a full list, with the caveat that the final lineup is a moving target.

This is specifically about the 20 July trailer, and there will be more trailers in the future where these characters may appear, although these omissions align with those absent from the first concept art picture posted on Twitter by Andy Park, Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development.

Avengers Phase I Characters Missing From This Trailer

Hulk / Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo)

Everybody’s favorite “friend from work” was last seen in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022), where Bruce Banner dealt with the aftermath of his Smart Hulk transformation and a family revelation involving his son Skaar. One of the original six Avengers, Banner has been a fixture of the MCU since 2012 and will next be seen in Spiderman: Brand New Day.

Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson)

Yes, she died in Avengers: Endgame (2019), sacrificing herself on Vormir so Clint Barton could retrieve the Soul Stone. Yes, death in the MCU is generally more permanent than a long weekend. But Steve Rogers was also supposed to be gone — he aged out and handed over the shield — and he is back. Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark died on screen in front of half the MCU and RDJ is now playing the villain. At some point the rules around permanence start to feel negotiable, so bring her back, Marvel! To be clear, she isn’t in the trailer, but there’s no law against wishful thinking.

Clint Barton / Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner)

Last seen in the Hawkeye Disney+ series (2021), where the original Hawkeye teams up with Kate Bishop to return to his family in time for Christmas. One of the founding Avengers, Clint has been in semi-retirement ever since.

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson)

The first man to bring together a group of remarkable people might be sitting this one out. Fury has been in the MCU longer than any other character but his two most recent outings, Secret Invasion (2023) and The Marvels (2023), were among the franchise’s most poorly received projects.

War Machine (Don Cheadle)

A founding member of the extended Avengers roster, Rhodes has been fighting in one suit of armour or another since Iron Man 2 (2010). He last appeared in Secret Invasion (2023), where a central reveal was that the Rhodey audiences had been watching was actually a Skrull impostor named Raava. The real Rhodey was released at the end but his current whereabouts and physical condition within the MCU are unresolved. Armor Wars, the film that was supposed to address his story, has not yet been released.

Avengers Phase 2 Characters Missing From This Trailer

All the Guardians of the Galaxy (Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Zoë Saldaña and more)

Last seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023), where Peter Quill handed the Guardians' leadership to Rocket and returned to Earth to reconnect with his grandfather — with a post-credits promise that "The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return." His closest allies scattered across the galaxy at the end of that film: Rocket became Guardians leader, Nebula and Drax retired, Gamora returned to the Ravagers, and Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam, Phyla, and Blurp continued as the new lineup. None of them are in this trailer.

Vision (Paul Bettany)

The love of Wanda’s life was last seen in WandaVision (2021), where the synthezoid was rebuilt as White Vision and flew off with no memory of his previous life. His journey to piecing together his existence will the focus of the upcoming VisionQuest this year, but the trailer doesn’t seem to show him in Doomsday for now.

Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen)

Introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) as a villain before eventually joining the Avengers, Wanda Maximoff was last seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). A raging, sorrow-filled Maximoff brought a mountain down on herself in what appeared to be a sacrifice. No body was confirmed. In the MCU, no body confirmed means no confirmed death and the Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse.

Avengers Phase 3 Characters Missing From This Trailer

Spider-Man (Tom Holland)

Friendly neighborhood Spidey was last seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), where Peter Parker asked Doctor Strange to make the world forget he was Spider-Man, including the people closest to him. He started over, entirely alone. He is also set to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrives before Doomsday film-release wise as well as chronologically (confirmed by Kevin Feige).

Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)

Last seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), where he and America Chavez saved the multiverse from Scarlet Witch, albeit at some personal cost. As Sorcerer Supreme, Strange is one of the MCU’s most powerful defenders of reality, which makes his absence from the trailer conspicuous given that Doctor Doom’s plans are inherently multiversal in nature (refer to meme of his seeing 14,000,605 realities).

Wong (Benedict Wong)

Last seen in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022), where the Sorcerer Supreme had a surprisingly eventful few episodes involving underground fighting rings. He has appeared in almost every MCU property since Doctor Strange (2016) and is one of the most quietly indispensable supporting characters in the franchise.

Captain Marvel (Brie Larson)

Last seen in The Marvels (2023), where Carol Danvers ended the film with her team scattered across the multiverse and the job of reassembling them. Danvers is one of the most powerful heroes in the MCU by raw ability so her absence from the trailer is interesting to say the least.

Avengers Phase 4 Characters Missing From This Trailer

Kate Bishop / Hawkeye (Hailee Steinfeld)

First introduced in Hawkeye (2021), where she took on the Hawkeye name and established herself as a solo hero in New York, and only once after that for a few seconds, which is a shame because Steinfeld has some crackling chemistry with Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova. She has been one of the more prominent names associated with a potential Young Avengers lineup, especially since Kamala Khan showed up at her door at the end of The Marvels (2023), recruiting her into a new superhero team.

All the Eternals (Gemma Chan, Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Barry Keoghan, Lauren Ridloff)

Introduced in Eternals (2021), Thena, Sersi, Ikaris, Druig, Makkari, Phastos, Sprite, Kingo, Ajak, and Gilgamesh have not been seen since, unless you count the post-credits scene teasing Eros, played by Harry Styles, who has similarly not resurfaced.

Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac)

Last seen in Moon Knight (2022), where Marc and Steven believed they had been released from Khonshu, though the post-credit scene revealed Jake Lockley remained his avatar.

She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany)

Last seen in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022), where Jennifer Walters established herself as both a lawyer and a superhero — and broke the fourth wall nearly as aggressively as Deadpool. Her legal expertise and considerable strength make her a useful Avenger in almost any scenario.

Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani)

Last seen in The Marvels (2023), where Kamala Khan held the team together and ended the film by recruiting a certain other young superhero. She has been widely associated with a Young Avengers contingent alongside Kate Bishop and Cassie Lang.

America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez)

Last seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), where she learned to control her ability to punch through the multiverse and enrolled at Kamar-Taj to train under the Masters of the Mystic Arts. Her power set — literal multiverse travel — makes her one of the most plot-relevant characters in a film centred on Doctor Doom’s interdimensional ambitions.

Love (India Rose Hemsworth)

Thor’s adopted daughter from Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), played by Chris Hemsworth’s real-life daughter India Rose Hemsworth. She inherited the power of the gods at the end of that film and has been training alongside Thor. She is referenced in a separate Thor-focused teaser but not in the July 20 trailer.

Daredevil (Charlie Cox)

Last seen in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 (2026), where Matt Murdock wrapped up his battle against Kingpin in Hell's Kitchen. His grounded, street-level world has not historically intersected with cosmic threats, and a Doctor Doom multiversal showdown is about as far from Hell's Kitchen as it gets.

Monica Rambeau / Photon (Teyonah Parris)

Last seen in The Marvels (2023), where Monica Rambeau sacrificed herself to close a multiversal rift and ended up stranded on the other side of it, in a universe where the X-Men exist. The implications of where she ended up have been unresolved so far.

Avengers Phase 5 Characters Missing From This Trailer

Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds)

Last seen in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), where Wade Wilson’s multiverse-hopping adventure ended with him and Wolverine returning to their timeline. His ability to break the fourth wall and travel between universes makes him theoretically present in almost any MCU story.

Wiccan (Joe Locke)

Billy Maximoff first appeared in Agatha All Along (2024), where the son of the Scarlet Witch discovered his magical heritage and immense power. He is likely to be part of the next generation of Avengers.

Speed (Ruaridh Mollica)

Tommy Maximoff, Billy’s twin brother, also appeared in Agatha All Along (2024). Where Billy has magic, Tommy has superspeed — and together they are two of the most powerful Young Avengers in the comics.

Wolverine (Hugh Jackman)

Last seen in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), where a variant of the Logan who died in the 2017 film ultimately stays in Wade Wilson’s timeline with him. His inclusion in a film that already features Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as the original X-Men would add yet another layer to the mutant picture, but no updates so far.

Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in cinemas December 18, 2026.
