Tamil Nadu Hotels Association urges MoPNG to prioritise LPG supply to restaurants

Tamil Nadu Hotels Association, a body representing restaurants, catering units, and food service establishments across the state, has asked the government to ensure uninterrupted supply of commercial LPG to the Hospitality Sector, in a letter addressed to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG).

The Ministry had earlier issued an order to prioritise the production and supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for domestic consumers, as an emergency directive given the conflict between Iran and US/Israel.

Speaking to businessline, Venkada Subbu, President, Tamil Nadu Hotel Owners Association, said that restaurants in the state currently have gas supplies for a month at most, post which many will have to shutter their establishments. He added that many restaurants have already reduced menu items to reduce consumption.

Subbu mentioned that certain LPG suppliers have hiked prices by up to ₹150 and has urged the central and state governments to take action against such hikes.

According to the letter, accessed by businessline, the association has requested the government to exempt the hospitality and food service sector from any restrictions imposed on commercial LPG supply and to ensure uninterrupted and adequate supply of commercial LPG to such establishments.

It has also requested the government to provide clear instructions to Oil Marketing Companies such as Indian Oil Corporation (lOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to continue the supply of commercial LPG cylinders without disruption.
