The Telangana government is preparing a comprehensive action plan to minimise the impact of El Niño on agriculture, drinking water, and power supply, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said

Speaking at a seminar on “From Pacific Ocean Warming to Telangana Preparedness,” organised by the State Planning Department here on Tuesday, Bhatti said the government aims to combine scientific planning with public awareness, ensuring that every family and village understands El Niño risks and prepares accordingly.

Scientific studies are being conducted on how warming in the equatorial Pacific would influence rainfall, water resources, and weather patterns in Telangana, to prepare advance measures to protect irrigation, drinking water, livestock and wildlife, the Minister said.

To safeguard farmers from drought-related losses, the government is promoting alternative low-water crops based on expert advice. District-level awareness campaigns will also be conducted to strengthen preparedness at the grassroots, Bhatti said.

Highlighting the rising electricity demand despite the monsoon, the Deputy Chief Minister said that Telangana was adopting smart energy management strategies to maintain an uninterrupted supply.
