Pop artiste Louis Tomlinson was part of one of the most iconic boy bands of all time, One Direction. He, along with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik, sold millions of records, and the world was their oyster until Malik decided to leave the band. The rest soon broke off too and started their solo careers. Louis is gearing up to release a new album, How Did I Get Here, next year, and he recently released the music video for the first single, “Lemonade”.
During a recent interview, Louis talked about how things were very different for him while he was in One Direction. “It’s still something that I am tracking through. I remember that after the split, Julian Banetta, who worked on a lot of One Direction’s stuff, said something to me during the Billboard Awards in Las Vegas. I think he had too many vodkas with Red Bulls that day, but he said, ‘Where do we go from here?’ The ‘we’ upset me a little bit. I understand that we are all in this together, but that question is a lot deeper for me than it is for you,” he said on the Life of a CEO podcast.

He continued, “I still don’t know the answer to that, and I don’t think I will. A lot of people have this trajectory: the older they get, the more famous they are. The weird part was being 24 and realizing that the only way is down. There is no alternative reality where I keep up with or supersede what we had done, no chance. It was very obvious to the people around us.”
Louis Tomlinson admitted that he doesn’t have the kind of muscle he once did while he was a part of One Direction, but it doesn’t really bother him. “Maybe there are some things that I had then that I don’t have now. I don’t have a billboard for the album here in New York or in LA. I don’t get those kinds of opportunities anymore, but am I bothered? Not really.”
The English singer clarified that it takes a lot more effort now if he wants to be considered as one of the top guys in the game. He said, “The thing is, I have to work really hard to compete at the level I do. The last project I did – never in a million years did I think when I started my solo career that I would have a number one record. I always feel that I have had to work very hard to keep my head above water. You can’t compare my solo career to One Direction, but it is hard to ignore.”
