The Fact Check Unit of the PIB has said that the videos are AI-generated deepfakes that were created to mislead the public

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has fact-checked AI-generated videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal that are being circulated on social media amid widespread student protests.

The Fact Check Unit of the PIB has said that the videos are AI-generated deepfakes that were created to mislead the public. It said neither PM Modi nor Goyal made the statements as shown in the clips, adding that Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating such videos.

In the fake clips with spliced audio, the Prime Minister and the Union Minister were seen threatening protesting students of dire consequences in the wake of massive protests in the national capital and several other states.

“Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating a video of Prime Minister @narendramodi featuring fabricated statements that he never made regarding the protest in Delhi", the PIB said in a statement posted on ‘X’.

The propaganda handles digitally altered PM Modi’s Thursday night video in which he addressed the issue of NEET-UG paper leaks and promised strict action against irregularities in examination system.

Moreover, Piyush Goyal’s byte outside Parliament was also altered.

Launched in November 2019, the PIB Fact Check portal is the government’s dedicated arm that counters fake news, rumours, and misleading claims related to government policies, ministries, and departments.

The development comes at a time when parts of the country, including the national capital, are witnessing widespread protests following the paper leak controversy linked to NEET-UG 2026. Protesting students –– spearheaded by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) –– have been seeking broader educational reforms and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
