Tamil Nadu already held about 41 per cent share in India’s total electronics exports in FY25 at around $15 billion, and this is likely to have grown to 45 per cent now in 2026, Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister TRB Rajaa said on Tuesday. “As the electronics manufacturing industry aims to hit $500 billion by 2030, Tamil Nadu will likely be a $150 billion market then,” Rajaa said. He also raised the issue of the Centre not releasing state-wise data on electronics exports for the current fiscal year.
The minister was speaking at the 15th Source India Electronics Supply Chain conference organised by ELCINA (Electronic Industries Association of India) in Chennai.
He said that this year, Tamil Nadu would aim to become the electronics hub for the entire Global South, and for that, it would need to focus more on R&D and IP creation in electronics.
Atul Lall, Past President, ELCINA and Managing Director & Vice Chairman, Dixon Technologies, lauded the increase in the budgetary allocation for the sector, especially for the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme. “At this pace, reaching a market size of $500 billion by 2030 looks realistic,” he said. “India’s signing of FTAs with various countries has opened up the world for us. The EU FTA alone is a $250 billion opportunity for India,” he added.
Sasikumar Gendham, President, ELCINA, said that electronics is now emerging as a core priority and India has emerged as a key beneficiary of the global supply chain reimagining. He added that the vision for the electronics sector by 2030 should be to move away from assembly to value creation.
Industry executives and other stakeholders mentioned that it is important for anchor EMS players to now increase localisation, and there is a need to build a future-ready talent pipeline. The industry needs to strategically come together for more local sourcing and also focus on building Indian brands in electronics, they added.
Industry veteran Josh Foulger (who is in the process of taking up a senior role at Dixon) said that EMS players must tap joint R&D with design majors to start their brand-building journey.
The event also saw the release of a report on Tamil Nadu’s electronics industry.
